Parenting mindsets and children's achievement and health outcomes

Type of Research:

Applied research

Purpose:

The impact of parents’ mindsets on children’s outcomes is largely unknown. The goal of this project is to understand how parents think about their children’s achievement and healthy lifestyles. For achievement, the goal of the study is to understand parents’ thoughts, feelings, and behaviors related to their children’s academic struggles, and how these impact their children’s mindsets and achievement motivation and outcomes. For healthy lifestyles, the goal of the study is to understand parents’ mindsets about eating behavior and how these impact children’s eating behavior.

Design:

We will give surveys to parents and children as a pilot to study the relations. Future work will include bringing parents and children into the lab to do tasks together.
