What is it?
Multiple measures are needed to examine self-esteem across multiple ages of childhood, adolescence, and/or adulthood. It can be a burden to have to request 2 or more different measures. In addition, statistical analyses would need to use complicated models that are not widely accepted to merge the data. Therefore, a new solution is needed. To address this need, we created a global self-esteem scale designed to be administered to individuals ages 5-89. The items are:
1. How do you feel about yourself?
2. How do you feel about the kind of person you are?
3. When you think about yourself, how do you feel?
4. How do you feel about the way you are?
Who has it been administered to?

Using the scale
We are creating a large database of LSE responses, and we would very much appreciate receiving updates on any data you have been collecting. The scale is available for your use in several different formats:
Microsoft Word to copy and paste to your survey
Pdf that can be printed directly
Pdf that has 2 scales and can be cut to save paper
Qualtrics: at the bottom of this page there is a ".qsf" file attached that you can download and import into your Qualtrics account
If you would like a SurveyMonkey version of the survey, please fill out the information in the form titled "SurveyMonkey Request" at the bottom of this page
The scale has worked in individual online, in-person interview, and group settings (i.e., student classrooms). The scale has shown good psychometric properties across each age group.
Please email Michelle Harris at firstname.lastname@example.org or Kali Trzesniewski at email@example.com if you have any questions about the scale. Thank you for your interest!
